1. Why Prepare ?
Preparation can reduce fear, anxiety, and losses that accompany disasters. Response plans developed in advance of an event can reduce the impact on lives and property.
Relief organizations will try to help, but they are no substitute for personal responsibility. Local responders may not be able to reach you immediately or they may focus their efforts on more severe impacts elsewhere.
Before an event:
Assess risks and dangers
Develop plans
Assemble supplies
Coordinate with others
During an event:
Execute your plan
Help others
Seek information and guidance
After an event:
Repair damaged property
Take action to reduce future loss
Be ready to be self-sufficient for a period of time. Personal, family, and community preparation should include shelter, first aid, food, water, and sanitation.
